When I was a child, I didn’t know what Down Syndrome was. But through my church, I was friends with Emma, a girl with Down Syndrome.
Every Sunday, Emma gave warm hugs to everyone in our Sunday school program. Her joyful energy filled the room, lifting the spirits of those around her. She always wore a bright smile and was friends with everyone.
As a kid, I didn’t know that Emma had Down Syndrome. To me, she was just Emma, the nice girl at church with the best hugs.
Now, as an adult, I look back on my memories with Emma and smile. I appreciate how she brightened the lives around her by being herself.
This quote reminds me a lot of Emma:
“She’s the kind of queen that knows her crown isn’t on her head but in her soul.”
